A google doodle on Jose Rizal’s execution, the national hero of the Philippines. I chose to do a Sepia colour scheme to emulate an old parchment paper and an old oil painting look. I chose to use a serif looking font to show that is a historic event. Jose Rizal is known as a writer that started a revolution in the Philippines, back when the Philippines was colonized by the Spanish. The scene depicted in the illustration is of Jose Rizal being executed with the feather acting as a gunshot piercing through his body in the background. Jose Rizal was also turned into a coin in modern day to commemorate him which is shown on the foreground of the illustration.
I started out with researching different dates and events that caught my interest and proceeded to sketchout layouts on how the wordmark of google could coexist with the illustration. I play with colour after the initial sketches and polish the illustration bit by bit moving forward.
